Diplomatic scuffle over Kashmir

Dear Delegates,
For this week, I am posting a few of inter-related articles about the Kashmir issue. President Arif Alvi is the current president of Pakistan and it is interesting to see what the newly formed government in Pakistan's stance on the Kashmir issue is. This article is from a Pakistani newspaper so read it with a grain of salt.

President Alvi demands Indian govt upholds rights of Kashmiri people

The following two articles are about the conference organized in London on Kashmir Solidarity Day by Pakistan. It is interesting to see how the two countries frame the conference.

  1. Again, the media is clearly partisan in these articles. On the Dawn website, in favor of Pakistan, the emphasis on alignment with the United Nations is almost repetitive at times. Those two articles from Dawn almost read like propaganda pieces, citing official sources like Pakistani foreign minister Qureshi accusing India of human rights violations and antagonizing Indian governance. Also, India Today and Dawn are at odds when describing the success of the APPG-K conference. The resulting joint statement itself focuses solely on Jammu and Kashmir, which seems to be more of a success for Pakistan, yet India Today claims that India had successfully blocked official British recognition of Qureshi's visit to London.

So in the end, was it a success for Pakistan or India, and what really was "success" in this case?

Interesting comparisons, thank you for the read!
