Hello! My name is Danielle Tyukody and I am very excited to be one of your vice chairs for NATO this year! I am a sophomore at UC Berkeley majoring in political science with a specialization in comparative politics, and minoring in education. I have been a part of BMUN for the past two years, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Outside of BMUN, I am an avid rock climber, and enjoy leading the competitive team for Cal Climbing here at Berkeley. This summer, I got my Nitrox Diving Certification in the Cayman Islands, and completed an online class. I wish you all the best, and cannot wait to see everyone in March. Good luck!
Stability in the Kashmir Region
Hello delegates, For this week's blog post, I thought I would highlight the current situation along the Kashmiri Line of Control (LoC). As you all know, there has been an official ceasefire along the line of control for decades. However, there are routinely breaches of that ceasefire; in 2017 there were 971 cross-border firing events. In 2018, that number more than doubled, with 2140 official firing events. I've attached an article that goes into more details on these events, as well as briefly talks about the Indian government's response to the situation.
