Iran Missile Program

Hello Delegates, Hope you guys are enjoying the articles we are sharing. For this week, I am sharing this very interesting article that talks about the Iran's Missile Program and the United States foreign policy towards them. The article goes into quite some depth to explain the types of missiles Iran has tried to acquire and why they failed. Hope you enjoy reading it! Yours, Emad Siddiq Vice Chair NATO https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/13/us/politics/iran-missile-launch-failures.html

Stability in the Kashmir Region

Hello delegates, For this week's blog post, I thought I would highlight the current situation along the Kashmiri Line of Control (LoC). As you all know, there has been an official ceasefire along the line of control for decades. However, there are routinely breaches of that ceasefire; in 2017 there were 971 cross-border firing events. In 2018, that number more than doubled, with 2140 official firing events. I've attached an article that goes into more details on these events, as well as briefly talks about the Indian government's response to the situation. Hi delegates! Hope your week has been great so far. Congratulations on finishing your position papers! I hope they were a helpful tool in deepening your understanding of the topics. Conference is only a few weeks away, and we are so excited to meet all of you very soon!  Here's an important event I want to bring to your attention - on Friday of conference (March 1st 2019), I will be hosting a THIMUN Procedure Workshop . I will be going over all aspects of THIMUN procedure, and if you have never done THIMUN before, or if you just want to brush up, I highly encourage you to attend! This will be very helpful for NATO delegates, and you will go into committee feeling much more prepared.  Here are the details for the workshop:  THIMUN Procedure Workshop Date: March 1st 2019 Time: 2-3 pm Location: Anna Head Alumnae Hall (2537 Haste St, Berkeley CA) I hope to see all of you there! Tech Policy

Hi delegates! Hope you all are having a great week so far. Thank you to everyone who submitted their Position Papers to be considered for Research Awards! For everyone else, the final deadline for your Position Papers is February 10th 2019.  A reminder that we will not  be considering any papers submitted after   February 3rd 2019 for Research Awards. Now, I would like to direct your attention to the tech policy for NATO at BMUN LXVII. Our committee will be an "unmod tech" committee, which means that laptops, tablets, phones and other electronic devices are only permitted during unmoderated caucuses, and for our THIMUN committee, during lobbying in the first committee session on Friday. During debate, all electronic devices are to be placed inside your backpacks. Of course, if there are separate circumstances that require you to use electronic devices during debate, please write to us and let us know. You are also welcome to approach us during conference before we begin

Diplomatic scuffle over Kashmir

Dear Delegates, For this week, I am posting a few of inter-related articles about the Kashmir issue. President Arif Alvi is the current president of Pakistan and it is interesting to see what the newly formed government in Pakistan's stance on the Kashmir issue is. This article is from a Pakistani newspaper so read it with a grain of salt. President Alvi demands Indian govt upholds rights of Kashmiri people https://www.dawn.com/news/1461965 The following two articles are about the conference organized in London on Kashmir Solidarity Day by Pakistan. It is interesting to see how the two countries frame the conference. Treaty Fallout and Hypersonic Missiles

https://www.technologyreview.com/the-download/612877/putin-pledges-to-work-on-a-hypersonic-missile-after-nuclear-missile-treaty-with/ Hey everyone! Here is a relatively recent (and very short!) article about the collapse of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, as both Putin and Trump have withdrawn. Additionally, the article describes how Russia intends to develop a hypersonic missile (which the US and China are working on as well).
